BCCIE Summer Seminar 2016

This presentation will explore Southeast Asia as one of the most promising emerging markets for BC educational offerings. Nearly 300,000 Southeast Asian students are studying overseas, with a demographic boom over the next decade that promises ongoing market growth. The presentation will explore the diversity of the region (giving a review of the various countries’ different education systems, different market dynamics and different national strategies) and the impact of this diversity on strategy setting for BC institutions. Finally, the presentation will look at the activities of Canada’s key competitors in the region - Australia and the UK - to help highlight where there are opportunities for Canada, what strategies have worked and where these competitors are vulnerable. The goal of the presentation is to help BC institutions understand this highly diverse region from both a student recruitment and international academic partnering point of view. Additionally, the presentation aims to help the audience appreciate the different types of opportunities accessible in each geography, and to develop strategies that better reflect the unique conditions found across the region.
